Robin Lerro, Children's Ministry Coordinator
We are pleased to announce Robin Lerro has been hired as our new Children’s Ministry Coordinator (CMC). Robin is a special education teacher who has worked with children and youth diagnosed with a variety of mild to severe emotional, psychological and physical disabilities for the last 12 years. Robin has been a member of First Church for 8 years. During that time, she has been a youth group leader and Sunday School teacher. Robin is also the child care provider for the annual and semi-annual Methodist conferences ran by the Bishop. Robin enjoys riding bikes with her children, coaching baseball and soccer and spending time with her family. She resides in Sellersville with her husband and four children.
The Children’s Ministry Coordinator position is a new staff position here at First Church as we seek to reach and support families with young children. About 10% of the CMC time will be spent coordinating, supporting, and overseeing the Christian Education ministry on Sunday morning for children and youth. The other 90% of time is to be spent developing ways to connect with and invite new families with children. This involves follow-up visits with families who attend worship, planning events to reach out to and connect with new families in the community, and developing connections and relationships within our community to learn and discover the needs of young families in today’s world. The CMC will also recruit and train volunteers to help with this ministry.
Robin officially began work 11/15/2011. During her interview, Robin shared that she will be taking a teaching internship Jan-Apr 2012 that would require her to work Mon – Fri full-time teaching in addition to a graduate school class she is taking. This is the only time this internship is being offered during the year and it is a requirement for certification she is seeking. Because of this internship, Robin will also take an unpaid education leave Jan 16 – Apr 20. She’ll return to work on Sunday 4/22. This arrangement gives her the freedom to focus on her studies while at the same time preventing problems of her not giving the position her full attention while in the internship. She will have a lot to do with Christmas coming up. This is the one time of year when we often have the best opportunity to reach new people and young families. Robin is actively working on ways to attract, connect, and respond to families with children between now and just after Christmas Eve.
Robin brings a passion for children and a high energy that we believe God will use to help us reach out to and support new young families in our community. Please welcome Robin and also pray for her as she seeks to help lead us in our outreach to new families.
